Achille Castiglioni (1918–2002) è universalmente riconosciuto come uno dei più grandi designer del XX secolo. Nato a Milano, si laurea in architettura al Politecnico nel 1944 e lavora con i fratelli Livio e Pier Giacomo, firmando icone come la lampada Arco (1962) e lo sgabello Mezzadro (1957). Il suo approccio empirico parte sempre dall'osservazione del comportamento umano. Ha vinto otto Compasso d'Oro e i suoi lavori sono esposti al MoMA di New York, al Centre Pompidou di Parigi e alla Triennale di Milano.
