Achille Castiglioni (19182002) is universally recognized as one of the greatest designers of the 20th century. Born in Milan, he graduated in architecture from the Polytechnic in 1944 and worked with brothers Livio and Pier Giacomo, designing icons such as the Arco lamp (1962) and the Mezzadro stool (1957). His empirical approach always began with the observation of human behavior. He won eight Compasso d'Oro awards and his works are exhibited at the MoMA in New York, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and the Triennale in Milan.
