History and Foundation

Cassina was founded in 1927 in Meda, in the heart of Brianza, the Lombard region that has been synonymous with excellence in furniture craftsmanship for centuries. Founded by Cesare and Umberto Cassina, the company began as an artisanal workshop specializing in the production of bespoke furniture for hotels, ships, and prestigious environments.

The Leap to Industrial Design

In the 1950s, Cassina underwent a momentous transformation: it abandoned commissioned production to embrace quality industrial design. It was during this period that it began collaborating with the greatest Italian architects and designers of the twentieth century — Gio Ponti, Franco Albini, Vico Magistretti — transforming itself into one of the most influential creative laboratories in world design.

The Masters and Iconic Collections

In 1965, Cassina launched Cassina I Maestri, a revolutionary collection that brought the masterpieces of Le Corbusier, Charlotte Perriand, and Pierre Jeanneret into industrial production, with exclusive license from the heirs. This was joined by the authorized production of pieces by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Gerrit Rietveld, and Frank Lloyd Wright, making Cassina the only producer in the world to safeguard this heritage of modern design.

Artisanal Quality and Innovation

Every Cassina piece is the result of a production process that combines advanced technologies and artisanal craftsmanship handed down through generations. The materials — fine woods, selected leathers, high-quality fabrics — are chosen with absolute rigor.
